Mystery Visitor
But, undaunted, I snap pictures ... one after another. Not knowing what it is I am taking pictures of, but
hoping that when I download them and can get a closer look, I will be able to tell what it is.
But no, the pictures are not real clear and I don't recognize the bird, so I start flipping through the pages of my bird book. ...
Still, I can't find it anywhere, so I Google it and they have the same birds as my bird book. Help!
Does anyone know what this cute little brown mottled bird with white wing bands and yellow/orange over it's eye extended into a white eyebrow and yellow/orange under it's beak is? I'm befuddled :(

No clue - not good with the little brown birds....but he's a brave soul. Almost as brave as the crazy lady with the camera.

He could be out of his range, but I live in the far north suberbs of Chicago and that is where he is now. Thanks, I hope you find something :)

I would say it is the female Redwing Blackbird! They are pretty birds!

I concur on the female red-wing. I've had a male and female at my feeders this week. To me the two look like different species. :) enjoyed the puzzle Andrea.
I photograph anything that sits still. I also think it is a female red winged!!

Yes a female Red-winged Blackbird, for sure and they are really so pretty. They are returning here in great numbers with their mates, out in the plowed corn fields and water reeds~

Well, I finally got some time to do some guide book research this morning and came by to add my 2 cents worth...already everyone agrees [as do my books] it's a female redwing...

Oh you are so right ... you all are. Thank you for going to all the trouble of looking it up. The dumb thing is, I have had female Redwing Blackbirds in my yard every summer for years and for some reason it just didn't register ... Maybe because she is all puffed up to stay warm. She just didn't look like herself :( Thanks again Hootin' Annie ... you're a peach :)

Glad you got an answer, as I would have been no help at all.
The names and locations of the states in Australia often make me smile - at one time, Darwin, which is on the north coast of Australia was in South Australia!!! Strange.

Well, I learned something new today. I've never seen the female redwinged blackbird, so I was thinking it was some kind of sparrow. But after looking up the female redwing on google, I have to agree with everyone else. What a pretty little bird.

Very clever to get shots at all. Love to see others has the same problem as I. :) As a photographer I love the first image. The trunks so tall without branches. Amazing. :)
