Wild Bird Wednesday

I have lived here 14 years and have never seen a Great Blue Heron in my yard ... but on this day and several other days, he has been here.  Yes, he is here to hunt something other than fish, which it had never occurred to me he would do.  But take a look ...

Well, I assume the little guy escaped, because the Heron never threw him back in his throat the way they normally do and he went about his business looking for another tasty morsel ...

After awhile, he headed back down the hill to come back another day.  We have an "ample" supply of Chipmunks, so I am thinking this is probably a good thing ... I just don't want to watch it.  Funny, it doesn't bother me when he eats fish :)

Wild Bird Wednesday

I see this handsome fella almost every morning when I go out to play Frisbee with Izzi ...

This morning I decided the Frisbees can wait and I came out with my camera ... and sure enough he was there ....

contemplating his morning :)
Happy WBW Everyone!

Wild Bird Wednesday

More shots taken at the State Park.  This is the Great Blue Heron in flight ...

I assume he got to where he was going, though , for some reason I failed to catch him landing (I don't remember why, but I assume I was distracted by something or someone :)  These birds are magnificent.  We used to have a rookery on one of the channels, but it was blown down in a storm two summers ago and I haven't been able to locate where they are nesting now.   The rookeries are fun ... there are Herons, Egrets and cormorants all nesting in the tops of a group of tree.  I do hope I am able to find the new one.  Have a wonderful WBW everyone ...

Wild Bird Wednesday

Wait, Watch & Worry ...

Huh?  Last time I was here there was a lake ...

What goes ... are we early or is the lake late?

This water is hard ... how am I supposed to find food?

I'm out o' here !

The dilemma is that the birds are returning but everything is still frozen ... how do they find food?  I can only hope they have more options than I am aware of  ... meanwhile, I
 wait, watch and worry ...

The Bird D'pot

I should probably have put this on Shadow Shot 2 because the Great Blue Heron's body is essentially all shadow ... Of what, I am not sure.  It was a strange site and an even stranger picture.  He was very close ... flying directly through my yard, which is rare, so strange as it looks, it was quite a thrill.  Enjoy ...

Sunday in the Art Room ...

Sunday in the Art Room The Old Cook County Hospital ... it still...
