Some pictures of some old friends ...

He looks like a grumpy old man, but he was molting and yes, that made him grumpy :)

He was visiting my house on the lake while his mew was being remodeled .... what a treat that was :)And yes, he only had one eye which is why we couldn't release him.

 Those were some of the best year of my life so I hope you don't mind if I keep referring back to them.

Fall is on us .... the weather is beautiful, but still no fall colors.  I wait with bated breath :)

Friday Face Off

This is the Mr. of the Mr. and Mrs. Kestrel we had at the Raptor Center.  They are beautiful, active birds, but also mischevious and fun ... and very hard to catch up.  They loved the walks we would take them on through the wooded areas and bated (tried to fly off the glove) anytime they saw something that looked "delicious" :)  When the Raptor Center was closed (lack of funding, of course) some of the birds ended up staying in our homes until a new Center could be established.  This young man was my guest for awhile and believe me, when I took him for walks we were the most popular pair in the neighborhood.  As much time as we spent with them, they never stopped being wild.  Though they tolerated our presence, they longed to be free.  None of our birds could be released because they either had injuries that would prevent them from surviving or they were imprinted on humans and could be  a danger to humans or to themselves.

Do they even teach table manners anymore?  I know when I was growing up, it was a thing.  And with my kids I tried to make it a thing.  But, if I look around me in restaurants, I don't see any sign of it ... Hmmmm, too bad :(

Buffy Boo[the dragon(mouse) slayer] ... intence but soft and cuddly when she chooses (emphasis on "when she chooses").  Buffy was dumped by our lake years ago.  We fed her outside until she got used to us and then brought her in.  She has to be kept separate from Diva (Our upstairs cat) as they have never been able to become comfortable with each other ... two intense females 😂

The Old Cook County Hospital ... it still stands and is still in use.  But the archatecture is from way back when ... Beautiful and impressive.  Personally, I love the old, more ornate and artistic archatecture vs the new, modern streamlined versions  ... Do you agree?

Swans

So, as beautiful as they are, they are very territorial and aggresive.  And, believe me, you don't want to be swat by one of those wings.  Their bone stucture in the wings is comparable to a man's arm and they can do a lot of damage if they get you.  Beside that, they are fast on their feet, so running away from them is no easy task.  I speak from experience as we had a pair at the rehab facility (pictured at the top of this post).  You would think that they would be glad to see us when we came to feed them, but no ... I and my cohorts had to run for the gate many times.  Not one of my favorite memories 😁
