Wild Bird Wednesday

A little Eagle?

This was quite a surprise to me.  I saw the brown bird flying behind the Pelicans, but until I used my zoom I didn't know what it was.  Imagine my surprise to see how small the Eagle looks next to the pelicans ... and we all know eagles are not small :)

We are still getting small groups of Pelicans on the lake and an occasional eagle.  The numbers have been amazing this year.   Also, I am told, I missed a wonderful group of Cormorants on the lake ... they usually come in with the Pelicans, but apparently this time the Pelis were greatly outnumbered by the Cormorants forming a huge black cloud that swirled around the lake then flew off like a long ribbon to the north ... that will teach me to sleep in (7:30 instead of 6:30).  It doesn't pay to be lazy :(

Of course I see both those birds here in Florida, but never in such close proximity. What great shots. And now that I think of it, yes, of course the pelicans are bigger. Very interesting -- you made me think. (And your pictures are wonderful!)

Oooooh.
How I would love to see more eagles. And pelicans. And cormorants.
Yes, I know, I am greedy.

Lovely photos of the pelicans. I am always amazed at how large they are. I also posted a pelican photo for today's linkup!

Cant help with what that bird of prey is - but it a good find anyway.

Some of the birds that use cooperative breeding in Australia include the Babblers and Apostle Birds (the ABs are so called because people used to think that they got about in groups of 12!)
