Wild Bird Wednesday

Wild Bird Wednesday #49
Link to Wild Bird Wednesday

I had to go back to the pond where the Red Wing Blackbirds hang out every year.   This year was disappointing.  I only found one male where in the past there were many.  No female in sight, but I know she is around because the male was protecting the sight.

The Red Wing Blackbird is a handsome fella ... bully bird, yes, but only doing what comes naturally. They are one of my favorites at my feeder ...

Pretty shots of the RW Blackbird! They are expecially pretty in flight, love the colors.

I felt so honored to have them at my feeder while in Goose Island. I'd never had such a close up look at these majestic birds.
Their raucous shrill cry makes me giggle for some reason...I'm sure it's meant to sound intimidating, but it just makes me chuckle.

They are prevalent throughout the U.S., as are many of the blackbird species. We need them all, though; to each their purpose (bully or not). Nice pictures of him!

What great photos of your red winged blackbird. I have only seen one twice in my area. They really are quite beautiful. Maybe the female is busy tending to young 'uns. Wouldn't that be nice! You have a wonderful day, hugs, Edna B.

I really like these birds - they feature in the first pages of one of my favourite books.

The pelican is actually on a post in the sea - its an very sheltered bay - but it is the sea.

Thanks for your comments!
