Wild Bird Wednesday

A winter walk in the Chicago Botanical Gardens.  The Mallards and the Canadian Geese spend the winter with us, locating wherever there is open water.  There were plenty of them in the water ways when we were there,  because it has been unseasonably warm.

Geese are wonderful birds and everyone loves them as long as they don't poop on the grass ...  Then they are considered a nuisance.  The Gardens have reached a compromise ... the geese can stay if they stay in the water where there is plenty for them to eat, but if they get on the grass, they are greeted by Border Collies who herd them back to the water.  I love it!

 The End :)

Terrific captures for the day, as always, but I'm sure you know that the last shot broke me up!! What a hoot and such a fun capture!! Hope your week is going well!!

I love that compromise too. And the final shot.
Thank you.

I love the ducks and geese, and I'm so glad about the compromise. It's fair to all concerned. Andrea, that photo of the bare trees is just beautiful. I agree about the climate change. However, I'm not complaining about the warm temperatures we are having right now. I always thought the day would come when the north would be warm and the south would be cold. Just opposite of how it's normally been. Hmmm, we'll see.

Today Pogo and I are hoping to go out and do a couple of errands. Got to take advantage of this wonderful weather. It's almost 60 degrees today. Woo Hoo! I love it!!

Well, I finally got most of my boxes and packages out in the mail. Just a few more and I'm done. It feels good. However, I think I really need to start doing this stuff much earlier next year. I just don't love the hurrying and rushing to get things done on time.

I'll bet Mint is anxious now to visit with her family. It will be sad not to have them at home for Christmas, but you'll be with them again soon.

Well now it's time for me to get ready to go out. Pogo sends a woof and a big lick to Izzi. You have a wonderful day, hugs, Edna B.

beautiful images! I love the first one! I do think their poop would make wonderful fertiliser though...

I read elsewhere about using dogs to herd the geese....

I like the end! I miss watching geese in winter - we used to get them near where I lived in the UK.

I agree that 'tame' may have been a better name for the Noddy! I just got closer and closer and closer! I actually think somebody walking in front of me moved the bird off in the end! I think I could have touched it with the front on my longest lens!!
