Wild Bird Wednesday

Migrating Swans

The Mute swans migrate through here every year.  This year the group is small ... maybe because we didn't have any swans on our lake to join the migration.  They were made up of 4 males and 1 female.  All of the males were doing their best to gain the attention of the female.  She was being coy and allowing each male to sidle up to her ...  heaven only knows who she will choose in the end :)

Of course when they are so close together and the graceful curvature of their long necks...well, they always seem to form a heart. Which I love!!!

You've captured their elegant stature perfectly Andrea.

These are gorgeous photos of the swans. They are such graceful beautiful birds. We have a few of them in the ponds in our park. I also love the photo of those really tall trees. That's how tall my trees are.

Pogo attempted to leave a comment on someone's blog today. I was typing a comment and he plopped his little paws down on the keyboard. He didn't do too bad, however none of his typing was in English. Goodness knows what he said!

Right now, there is a little nuthatch enjoying the peanut butter bread treat outside the door. I love being able to look out and watch all these little birds. A little while ago, there was a chickadee and a tiny woodpecker out there.

My daughter Deanne called to say that they are taking me out to dinner tomorrow night. Woo Hoo. I'll have to get a doggie bag to bring home for Pogo. All three of her kids and two of their other halfs will be there. This will be a fun evening.

Today was just gorgeous, weather wise. And I think tomorrow is supposed to be just as nice. The heavens are smiling on us this week. The cold temps will be back soon, but for now I'm loving the weather.

I've been busy crocheting. I'm not sure what I'll do with all the projects, but at least my hands are doing okay. This is good therapy. My little guy is prancing between here and the refrigerator. I think he's hinting about food. Gosh, he is such a smart little guy. haha. Well, I think I'll go make him happy. You and Izzi have a wonderful evening. Hugs, Edna B.

What a heart-warming sight to see. Thank you.
And I so hope they have a terrific season and bring their family back next year.

Wonderful pictures - are the Mute Swans native in your part of the world? There is a small population in Western Australia - but just like me, they cam from England originally!

I have added some information about the male Freckled Duck (thanks for reminding me!) - basically they are the same as the females, but the base / half of the beak is red. I'm not actually sure if it's red all the time or just in breeding season - back to the books for me!

what a great sighting. A lovely pair and light and they were not too far away. :)
We have them but they persist of being on the far side of the lake, About 2 km away. You just see the water is dotted in white. Beautiful shots.
