Late Migration
Our weather has been anything but normal this winter. We had snow in October and by early November our lake was frozen ...
But then two weekends ago our temperatures went up into the 50's and it has stayed warmer (above freezing) since ... The lake thawed and the flocks started arriving and departing as they should have been in late fall. Mostly Common Mergansers a few Mallards, of course the Seagulls and more that I couldn't identify.
The Canada Geese stay all winter but move to the open fields once the lake is frozen ... they, too, came back.
And the Eagle made a pass as he checked out his territory ... he will be back with others as long as the lake stays open.
This morning there were a few Golden Eye
And a small group of Mergansers ... they flew off and started climbing to head further south.
The warm weather was a blessing for the many birds who were caught by the sudden and unexpected change in the weather ... Nature does take care of it's own ... and will continue to do so if man does what they need to do to protect the environment. Here's hoping, though it doesn't look promising ...

Your photos are great! This is just one of the reasons I would love to live on a lake or pond. You have so many different types of birds. It's just wonderful.
Well Christmas Eve Day is here and I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas. Pogo sends happy greetings and woofs to Izzi. We are having such fun here, and are going to stay up late tonight to share a cup of cocoa with Santa when he stops by.
You have a wonderful day my friend. Hugs, Edna B.
Lovely photos of all the birds
