Friday Face Off ...

The Red Wing Blackbirds are showing up everywhere now ... another wonderful sign of Spring :)

David gave the right answer to last weeks question, so I will quote him in case you didn't read it ...

Question: What do Turkey Vultures do that makes school age boys think they are awesome?

David's answer:  "Projectile vomit and crapping on their own legs would do it, Andrea!"

We would take our Turkey Vulture to education programs at the schools and when we explained these two habits ... they crapped on their legs to keep themselves cool and they would projectile vomit on anything that threatened them.  The boys cheered and laughed ... the girls thought it was disgusting 😝

P.S.
I made a promise to a friend that I would post this ... if I haven't mentioned it before, Turkey Vultures are social birds and once they are comfortable with you, they can be playful :)

It's fun to learn about turkey vultures. I didn't know they had projectile vomit. And that's a fantastic photo. I wonder how they play. I think vultures teach us that being the top scavenger bird and having a bald head doesn't really make you an ugly soul. Have a super weekend Andrea. Hugs-Erika

Great picture, Andrea. Much better than a monkey on your back! I have a sweat shirt with a hand painted Turkey Vulture on it. I will wear it today, assume that the bird is a female, and name her Andrea. I know you will be pleased!

Your photo of the Redwing Blackbird is wonderful. We have a large local flock of Turkey Vultures. They are beautiful in the air, but not pretty up close. Given their diets and habits, I have given them all the space they need.

I'm answering your questions on my quiltlet
those little triangle units are traditionally called flying geese.
I did finish that colorful hexie, and it's on my table already, the post id out but I'll link up on FFO next Friday too.
loved learning about vultures. I used to watch birds in extreme heat, open their wings to the air. And squirrels would go to the top crossbar of our swing, and straddle it to try to catch a breeze

Dear Andrea,
wonderful the wings of the red-wing-blackbirds!
If I had known all this about the turkey vultures in Costa Rica, I probably would have paid a little more attention to them. In my eyes they were just a threat to the poor little sea turtles. But they are fascinating animals themselves. That photo of you with the vulture is stunning. (I hope he or she knew that you were still alive 😉) By the way, I once fell in love with a female vulture - griffon vulture lady Vroni at a bird of prey show: https://rostrose.blogspot.com/2014/06/flugel-zum-fliegen.html
🌸❤️🌸
Have a great May! Hugs, Traude 😘
