The Woodpecker and the Acorn

This Red Bellied Woodpecker was very interested in the acorn ... could it be that there was an insect wintering inside?  He did manage to make a hole in it, but I guess we will never know if there was a happy surprise or just curiosity getting the best of him.  Happy New Year Everyone ...

Hi Andrea. Next to Owls, Woodpeckers are probably my favourite family of birds. You images brough a smile to my face - thank you! Red-bellied Woodpecker is a bird I'd love to see, but I suspect I never will. I can always dream however!

My best wishes to you for 2018 - - - Richard

Hello, cool series on the woodpecker and acorn. I always thought the acorn shell was very hard, we drive over them on our driveway and had pieces all over the place. The squirrels and birds ate some. Thanks for your past visit and comments on my blog, they are much appreciated. I wish you all the best in 2018, Happy New Year! Enjoy your day and new week!

I love the series. I like to think there was a nice juicy bug inside. Happy Wednesday!

nice woodpecker. Is that an acorn? Seems very large to be one. I thought it was an apple :)
