Wild Bird Wednesday

(click on logo to see more birds)

Canadian Geese
They spend the night on the ice where it is safe from night time predators ...

In the morning they wake up

and gather their group

then take off for the cornfields to graze ...

Though they are common and often considered pests, they are beautiful and smart birds ...

They are tough and seem not to feel the cold. They will hang around so long as there is a food source. Yes, they are beautiful birds.

I hope this doesn't sound too much like a smart ass purist but they are Canada Geese, not Canadian Geese. It's a pet peeve of mine that birds get misnamed. I read your comments in Stewart's blog about hoping that 2018 will be the year to dump Trump. I hope you are successful. the whole world will thank you.

Super photos. I agree, they are beautiful. I love watching them at the park. I can't wait for the warmer weather so that Pogo and I can go to the park again. I miss seeing all the water birds. You have a super day, hugs, Edna B.

They may be considered pests - but many things are!! I used to see these in the UK - but we dont have them in Australia.

We kept the cats apart for 10 days - feeding them on either side of a door that was slowly opened. I dont know if that method will work once the cats have settled in. They now seem to get on like siblings - i.e. ignore each other most of the time, then have the occasional play fight - which can get a bit too rough! Then one of the cats sulks!

I love those birds and wish I knew their secret on how to keep warm when they hang out on a frozen lake! :)

The fact that they spend the night on the ice was so interesting to learn! Lovely shots of them. A wonderful post.
