Wild Bird Wednesday

Eagles in my Back Yard

A young male eagle showed up in my tree with a fish ... our lake is still frozen but, obviously, there are some open water areas where he can hunt.

He is "feaking"*his beak to remove food that is on his beak from his meal ...

And now, he is cleaning any scraps he can find off of his feet ...

Ah ha ... arrives an adult female. Are they a pair ... not sure :)

The young male leaves ...

Only to return in a few minutes with another fish ...

Arrives a Juvenile (guessing a female by her size) ...

She too has a fish and proceeds to eat it ...

and feaks her beak when she is finished ...

And now there are three ...

And alas ... a 4th young male arrives on the scene ... I am assuming this is a family group as there are other eagles flying by but showing no interest in these four ...

He too has a fish to eat ...

And then there were four ...

There is more to this story ... stay tuned for next weeks post :)

How glorious! I would absolutely die of happiness if even one eagle landed in a nearby tree to eat a fish! We have a river close to us, and we see them riding the air currents high above the canyon behind us, all the time, but they are too far away for good pictures. Occasionally we see one fly by much closer. Our juniper trees have branches that are too closely placed and full of foliage to make a good perch I am sure. But maybe one of these days I will have an opportunity to take photos of one on a branch somewhere. LOVE your amazing photos!
