Sculpture
I start with this sculpture done by Marvin Martin, a professor at the U of I College of Art and, incidentally, the father of one of my best friends in Grade School and throughout life. He taught me to appreciate the effort involved in sculpting and also the talent it took to do it well.
This is a Paper Mache Sculpture that I did while in college taking an art class at the U of I College of Art :) I think You can see the influence of my friend's father . My Mother dubbed it "The Over Sexed Water Buffalo" 😁
I spend a lot of time at the Morton Arboretum ... it is a peaceful and beautiful place.
Asian Garden Statues
A Chocolate cake ... Yummm 😁
Chicago Art Museum
A Picasso Sculpture in downtown Chicago ...
Izzi's Pumpkin
Snowman
This lovely lady was suspended from the ceiling in the Zurich Train Station ... she should look familiar to you as I suspect she is a Niki de Saint Phalle (mentioned in Valerie-Jael's post last week )😄
These are a pair of Sculpy Clay figures made recently by me (the fox) and my Granddaughter (the Penguin).
And, last but not least ... last weekend I joined a group of ladies on a trip to Racine, Wisconsin where we learned how to make blown glass pumpkins ... Quite the experience, I must say .😊
.....
This is only a small sampling of pictures that I have of sculpture ... amazing how we are influenced in our lives. This was a fun prompt ... thank you, Rain.

Hi Andrea, your selection of sculptures is fabulous. And yes, that colourful lady is from Niki de Sainte Phalle, I so love her work. I love the piece from your friend's father, and your sculpture, and had to laugh at the title your mother gave to it, too funny! I love places like the Arboretum, where the figures are in such beautiful surroundings. I like Switzerland, but I don't think I would want to go too near to those ice sculptures, I'm not a cold fan! And that#s a sweet kitty under the glass table! Have a great weekend, take care, hugs, Valerie
Wonderful sculptures Andrea, love the pieces you chose to show. The closest I have come to doing my own would be kneading dough haha.
Sculpture is yet another art form which delights me (and awes me).
I really like your oversexed water buffalo - and look forward (and yes that is a hint to seeing your glass pumpkins).
Your implied definition of sculpture is wonderful -- so many different levels of creativity from childish efforts to very fine famous artists. Rain's challenge was really great the way so many people developed the theme.

...I know of the Morton Arboretum for it horticulture collection, but I didn't know that it has some many sculptures. Chicago's Picasso sculpture is ionic! Thanks for sharing, take care and stay safe.
The work by Marvin Martin has a very distinctive look to it, and very appealing. You have emulated it well.
All of these are just fabulous. Most of them I would like in my yard.
My apologies for visiting so late. Life got in the way of computer time.
When I was creating my post this week, I wished I had the gazillion photos I took at the Chicago Art Institute, but they were all on film and were ruined when my basement flooded. I immediately thought of the lions on the outside of the museum.
I am in total awe of the sculptures that you shared, including the one your mother dubbed an oversexed water buffalo.
I liked the Native American sculptures you found in AZ and the ice sculptures in Switzerland. I see Chicago did to pigs what Kansas City, MO did to cows in the early 2000s. I really enjoyed this post dear. It was something I was looking forward to.
hi Andrea, you have a habit of findig lots of images for every theme Rain has. This is no exception. The chockolate head I think I have seen before. I wonder if it is still there? :)
It is interesting to see where you got your inspiration. I like the work of your teacher. I think the lady sculture is still very modern. And so are your buffalo.
I like what you share fron the Morton Arboretu, Especially the one for 2021 with the lady heads. They are amazing. I wish we had more of this in Sweden. There are some of course but not easy to find. And mostly in the larger cities. The woman sculptures are so beautiful.
Take care!
Andrea,
Excellent examples for Rain's sculpture theme. I did recognize the Niki deSaint Phalle piece but I could've told you the artist. I do recall Valerie using a similar work, though. Look at you, you also used Sculpey clay. That's the brand of polymer clay that I used for my little ladybug. Your fox is cute and your grand daughter penguin is adorable. I think I can do the penguin. :) Did you use different color clays or did you paint your sculptures? WOW, did you make the blown glass pumpkin? That's really pretty. I'm blown away!
Hi Andrea, wow...the arboretum and ice sculptures are just stunning. I wanted to thank you so much for your sweet comment last week. It's been so tough, and yes, I've been crying it out. I brought Marlene "home" a few days ago - we had a private cremation. I feel her energy with me, I felt her walking next to me and Jack and Charlie on our walk this morning. Anyway, just want to say thanks, I really felt your love and support my friend. ♥♥♥
