Thursday Art Date With Rain ... You as a Superhero

"You (meaning me) as a Superhero"

My Mother was a nurse ... an OB nurse.  When we went to the Grocery Store we were always stopped by Mother's who adored my Mother because she was their nurse when their babies were born.  To me she was a superhero.  Of course, I chose to follow in her footsteps and I became a nurse later in life.  I worked in a University Hospital in Chicago and I worked beside many Superheroes.  Today, I still know those nurses and they and all medical staff are without exaggeration the SuperHeroes of this generation.  Our Nurses and  Doctors are putting themselves on the line for us every day ... putting their own lives at risk to help the millions who are or have been in our ICU's with the Corona Virus.  And, feeling the heartbreak of the thousands of Americans who have died.  They are getting no help and, in fact, are being belittled by some who would claim that the Corona Virus is a hoax.  What a shameful Display of Disrespect!!!  I have never faced this virus in an ICU because I retired 20 years ago and am, at my age, considered high risk.   But, I wish every day that I could be there to help.  I also wish every day that the people in our country would take seriously the need to follow the CDC recommendations for protecting ourselves and others from this virus so that our hospitals aren't overrun with the climbing numbers of new cases.  There will be no end to this nightmare until people find it in their hearts to care for others.  Is that so much to ask?

                                                                    ***************

On the lighter side ... This is the first and only self portrait I will probably ever attempt because I could cover up all of the difficult parts with a mask ... so , this is me wishing I could really be the Superhero in this picture.

Thursday Art Date With Rain ... Antique

This is a fun, but in some ways sad prompt for me.  My husband and I have had antique collections for years, but when we downsized, we sold the majority of our pieces.  The good news is that I have pictures of most of them and will share them with you today.

My FH is a Chemical enginee and worked his entire career for two major Oil Companies.  It was a natural for him to start to collect Oil Company Memorabilia.

Try decorating your house with oil cans and signs ... not easy, but a challenge that was fun.

The Gas Globes were easy ... they looked awesome no matter where we put them :)

Clocks are always fun.  I finally had to stop running them because they would all "dong" at the same time and the noise was deafening ... and if you happened to be talking on the phone when they did their thing,  you would miss some possibly important information :)

These were produced by the Barnum & Baily Circus when Jumbo the elephant (the largest elephant in the world at the time) was brought to America from England in 1884.

I had a lot of Elephant powder boxes.  These were two of my favorites.  I don't have them anymore, but they are still accessible because I gave them to my DIL :)

If you haven't noticed, Elephants are my thing.  It all started when my parents gave me a Dumbo at age one.  After that my grandparents started bringing me elephants from places they traveled to.  Before I knew, I was an elephant collector :)

These are elephant toys from the late 1930's and early 1940's.

There is more, but enough is enough.  I think I have samples of my favorites here, so that should be good.  Hope you are all finding ways to enjoy life ... while staying safe, of course.  Be well ...

Thursday Art Date With Rain ... Dots and Points

Dots & Points

This is a Poplar Tulip Flower I drew with dots in the 70's.  I always loved doing dot pictures back when I had more time to devote to my art.  Now, I guess I don't have the patience to choose to do it with out a push from Rain :)

This is a perspective drawing I did in an art class in college ... xx number of years ago.  I loved doing dot pictures all the way back in my youth :0

And this is my current effort.  It turned out to be more of an issue than I expected as the red/orange dots turned black when I scanned it in.  I had to dot over it in Photoshop ... ugh.  It was tedious, to say the least.   I think I salvaged it ...

Winter is here for sure and we have finally elected a new President, though the old one is refusing to concede (not a surprise).  Anyway, I am hoping things will pick up now and we will finally get an organized effort to defeat the Corona Virus (starting January 20th).  The end may be in sight since we may have a vaccine in the offing :) Meanwhile, stay safe everyone ...

Thursday Art Date With Rain ... Looking Down

Looking Down

This continues to be a stressful week here in the states  so I wasn't able put much effort into this post.  I think the pictures I chose suit the prompt so hope they will do for today.  The Corona Virus continues to rage on so don't let your guard down ... if herd immunity turns out to be the goal, many of us are in deep trouble ... Stay safe everyone!
