Friday Faceoff Challenge

FFO Challenge
This is my friend's daughter ... She is  sweet and full of energy.  She creates her own crafts and sells them at a store.  She often comes to visit my daughter, who adores her.  Below she is showing her crafts with her sister.

Grandaughter
Free hand ... then paint

   Trace outline ... then paint

This is my beautiful Granddaughter.  I have been trying for years to capture her likeness and I can't quite get it ... apparently I don't have an eye for detail.  So I decided to trace an outline then finish the sketch and paint it.  I think I finally captured her beauty ... even if I had to cheat :(

She is 16, but a senior in High School.  She is taking flying lessons and her goal is to be a Commerical Airline Pilot.  She is smart and beautiful (more beutiful than I can capture in my art).  Much of her beauty comes from who she is ... a delightful, funny, caring , kind, smart young lady :)

P. S. Don't forget to check out my Friday FaceOff post just below this one.  I know when there are two in a row, it would be easy to miss :)

First of all tracing is NOT cheating. check out these posts on my blog https://beadwright.blogspot.com/search?q=tracing+for+art and then this one https://beadwright.blogspot.com/search?q=tracing
I'm so happy to meet your friend's daughter. You captured her perfectly. She looks like a delightful young lady and her beaded items are wonderful. I hope she is selling a lot. Your granddaughter is gorgeous. What a grand career she is after. I'm sure she will achieve her goals. I love your art of here. The skin, eyes, and mouth show emotion. I really love her hair. Thank you for joining FFO and the portrait challenge.

You rendered nice versions of both young ladies. I particularly like how you did your friend's daughter.

Lovely portraits of both young ladies! I particularly like how you did the mauve fleece top in the first one -- fabric is so hard to do but you've rendered its fuzzy warmth beautifully!

You have a beautiful young grandchild, Andrea, and she’s obviously smart, too. I hope she has a wonderful life. Hugs - David

All of the ladies in your post are beautiful Andrea. You did a wonderful job. And your granddaughter is really beautiful. I'm impressed she is taking flying lessons at 16 also. I once had a chance to take the stick in an old fashion plane, but I wasn't 16. I think learning to fly would be amazing. Good luck toy our granddaughter. And you did capture a lot of likeness in your tracing too. hugs-Erika

Oh Andrea, tracing is not cheating!
Your granddaughter is such a beautiful young woman, and obviously very smart as well. She has a great goal in life and I"m sure that she will achieve it. How delightful that you have her in your life. I also love the first portrait, it is so sweet and full of life.

Nice to meet you, Andrea! I love your self portrait cartoon, and the delightful portraits of your friend's daughter and your granddaughter. Your granddaughter is definitely beautiful, especially because you can see the kindness in her eyes. I have two grandsons, an almost 5 month old and a 2 year old. They are the apple of my eye. I look forward to getting to know you. Blessings to you and your family.

I love both of these. You SO nailed your friend's daughter. And your granddaughter is so lovely. And tracing is definitely not cheating. The finest of artists have been doing it for years. Because you can trace a shape of a face or a mouth or features. But there are so many times after that where it can go all wrong. The way the color is applied. Blending. The spark in the eyes or twist of the mouth. The wrinkle or crow's foot. No, tracing is a guide. The art is in the execution.
