Purple Finch

We have a lot of House Finch around, but once in awhile I will spot a Purple Finch among them.  They look so much alike and even their songs are similar ... but when you get a good look, there is nothing more beautiful than this little bird.

So, why "purple"?   Why not red?

Good Fences

As I have posted all of the fences I can walk to around here, most of my fences are caught on the fly as I drive by them. This one is no exception.  I am sure there is more to this fence and garden, but as we zipped by it rather quickly, you get just a taste of this beautiful place.

Wild Bird Wednesday

Mrs. Duck arrived at the base of my big tree where I put food out for the wildlife.  Sadly she came too late because it had all been consumed, so there was nothing but the lesson for her babies to learn about where to go to find food ... when it's there.

So I grabbed my camera and by the time I got out there she had already made it down the hill and into the lake.

Mr. and Mrs. Duck have been coming to my feeders for four, maybe even five years.  There are others, but they are the regulars ...

This year Mrs. Duck has only five ducklings ... last year she had ten and they all survived.

So five should be easy for her unless something tragic happens ... don't like to think about that.

  But, so far so good ...

NF DAM Digital Art Mem

This is an image of one of the Bing Wallpapers that I get on my computer daily.  It is said to be a close up of a Giant Clam ... can you imagine?  However, to me it was a source ... a source of many little faces  staring at me ... can you see them?

I have made little enhancements here and there so you can see what I am looking at.  I know there are many more, because every time I look I see something different.  This is just simply fun :)

Wild Bird Wednesday

A visit to the past ... it has been raining here every day for weeks.  When we do get a break and a peek at the sun, I have to cut my grass and do yard work or we will be overgrown and you may never hear from me again.  So, since I haven't really been able to get out to do any birding I am reaching back into my archives for some pictures I took at this time of year ... only different year...  Meet the Palm Warbler ...

These were taken on my street as I walked Izzi down by the channel ... The real trick here was getting Izzi to sit/stay long enough to get these shots.  She really is a good girl :)
