Wild Bird Wednesday

Barn Swallow

I spotted this young Barn Swallow while walking around Round Lake with my friend.  I am pretty sure he is a fledgling as he occasionally went into the wing fluttering, food begging mode.  Barn Swallows are beautiful and they eat flying insects i.e. mosquitoes, so they are always a welcome sight.

What a sweet little fellow. You don't usually see them sitting around doing nothing. We have Welcome Swallows which are very similar to the barn Swallow.

What a pretty bird. It looks so serious in that first shot.

barn swallows are wonderful birds and so fun to watch. I have never seen one in a branch like this with berries. But, I have seen them feed the young in flight. That´s pretty cool !

Very nice picture. I have my eye on a site where our Welcome Swallows (very similar species) seem to be interested in nesting - if they nest there, I should be able to get some shots like these.

PS: did you get the email about 'life rings' and kittiwakes?
