Wild Bird Wednesday

Last week I took a long walk in a new (to me) Forest Preserve.  The wonderful thing about the county I live in, is they have gone to much expense to preserve and restore the wetlands and forested areas around us.  They repurchase land whenever the budget allows and then try to return it to it's native status.  The walks and fences are well maintained and they are a wonderful place to spend personal quiet time ... walk, walk, walk, keep that old body in it's post Switzerland mountain climbing shape!  Wishful thinking, but worth the effort:)
On this walk I could hear a lot of birds, but couldn't see them until I came upon this little fella ... A Yellow-rumped Warbler male.  They are normally much more striking in color (being a slate gray,  darker mask and much brighter yellow patches, but, like the Finch, they molt into this duller color over the winter.  They pass through here in the spring and fall during migration.  I don't believe they ever stay as this is the only time of year I ever see them.

Bon Voyage my little feathered friend ... safe travels :)

HI Andrrea Firstly thanks for your kind comments on my recent posts. Now it is lovely to go to new places and see what one can find. This find of this little bird with its yellow rump is smashing

I love these little guys! They sure do flit from place to place and are often very hard to capture with a camera lens!

I love the shot showing the color patch on his rump amidst all those yellow leaves - perfect setting.

Nice shots, Andrea. I don't believe I've ever seen this little bird. It's adorable. Sad to say, around here they seem to be putting up more houses in areas that are usually left to our wildlife.

We're having a week of super temps. It feels good to have the windows open all day again, even if it's only for a while. I think tomorrow Pogo and I will go to the park and maybe bring along our lunch.

Now I'm off to get a few chores done around here. You and Izzi have a fabulous day. Hugs, Edna B.

Wonderful captures! Glad your area has preservation areas available. That's so much better for the wildlife, and sure helps us out who like to photograph them.

Super shots of this sweet little bird. The last one was really neat as it flew off. - I usually hear birds too when I'm out on walks and then never seem to get photos of them, so you did well with these.
