Wild Bird Wednesday

I was doing my usual spying on the birds from the window and I noticed a small Blue Jay ... Yes, whip out the camera and take a picture ...

Then, suddenly a male Bluebird arrives at her side and feeds her a peanut ...

I knew about this courting behavior, but I have never witnessed it.

She turns away from him and he leaves ...

while she waits patiently ...

He returns with another morsel to feed her ...
They flew off together and in my mind I imagine them building a nest somewhere in the area.  He will continue to feed her through the breeding, incubation and while she tends the brood.  Then, sometime this summer, I will see them feeding their not so little fledglings at my feeder (I see it every year ... fledgling Blue Jays can be very demanding, but cute and they always look bigger than their parents ... now why is that? :).  Wishing you a Happy WBW!

They are a favorite of mine...had 'em in Colorado, but never see them this far south in Texas. So, your post and images are a special treat for me.

That's so sweet, and you got great shots! I saw the same thing outside my window a few weeks ago.

Awww. I too spend a lot of time watching birds - and have never seen behaviour remotely like this. Some mutual grooming, but no feeding.

Well, you knew I would love this one. They are one of my favourite birds! I have been seeing them come to my big pine tree. They are such characters.I love them!

I love any male that would feed me snacks.

What great shots of the Blue Jays, Andrea. I know they are pesky, but I love them and they really are beautiful birds. We have some of them here, but I've never really noticed this type of behavior. I'll have to be a bit more aware. We don't have very many yellow goldfinches in my area, but there was one at my feeder the other day, so I bought a thistle sock and hung it out in hopes of luring a few more finches to my yard. Today the weather here is gorgeous (just like yesterday). I absolutely love these warm sunny days. They are good for my soul. lol. You have a wonderful day, hugs, Edna B.

HI Andrea Great shots of the Blue Jay. it was great to capture the male feeding the female in the hope that she will accept him and then allow him to mate with her. I will watch for your babies to be born!

Great thing to see - and it all leads to us still having Blue Jays next year!

I agree with the "it's never just a ……" and I complete the sentence with "Parrot" or "Kookaburra"!
