Random 5 Friday

1.)  I have lived in the Chicago area for nearly 50 years from the far south side, to the west side and now, the far north side.  As long as I have lived here, every time I drive down town (which is often), the traffic is awful!

2.)  The great thing about Chicago is, no matter where you are going or why you are going, there is always something to see.  This Picasso is in front of the City Hall Building.  When I was first married (coming up on 50 years) I used to walk past it every day on my way to work.

3.) This is the old Marshall Fields clock ... I have a picture of my mother taken under this clock in the 1940's.  We loved Marshall Fields and hated when Macy's bought them out ... but they did keep the famous Marshall Fields Frango Mints  and that is a good thing.

4.) The old Wrigley Building ... built in 1920 and finally achieving Chicago landmark status in 2012.  Who knew you could get that rich selling chewing gum :)

5.)  Every where you go in the city you will see the stark contrasts between the old and the new ... what an awesome and stimulating place to live.  You all should come visit Chicago.  You could be here for years, like me, and never see everything they have to offer.

Born and raised in Chicago, I was proud of it. As I got older and moved to the suburbs (as you), as well as other places in the country, I see cities differently. Chicago has its charm, more than some, but I guess I am more of a country/rural girl. Cities are too busy, dangerous, and congested. You did show some really nice landmarks here, though. It may be a nice place to visit, but I would no longer want to live there (or any city).

There is beauty to be found everywhere - if your eyes, heart and mind are open. Thank you for sharing some of Chicago's magic.

That clock is beautiful. I don't go downtown here due to the traffic, crazy drivers and utter lack of parking.

I am hoping to get to Chicago this spring or summer. It has been too long and I am only three hours away. I love exploring there.

Beautiful shots as always! I was in Chicago 2 years ago and had a fabulous time. So much eye candy and a wonderful city for walking. It's high on my list of favorite cities in the world. Can't wait to return but this year it's NYC since I've never been! Coming from Toronto I felt very comfortable in Chi-town except I realized that Chicago does it right. Toronto has a lot to learn especially about the waterfront.

A few years ago I visited Chigaco, a city I knew nothing about. I liked it very much, saw the Bean of course and the Frank Lloyd Wright houses.

I know so little about Chicago so my little trip through your random five helped 'fill me in' about your city. Hugs.

Chicago has so many things to offer, but I could never live right in the heart of the city...I need more quiet than that.

Where ever you go the traffic is bad. And chewing gum does seem to have made some people a lot of money. I think I'm glad I saw the GC in winter - less people and more interesting weather (?).

Such fabulous shots of the beautiful landmarks in Chicago. I especially loved that old clock. I live about 30 minutes from Boston, but I would never drive there because of all the traffic and congestion. Many moons ago, I worked and played in Boston but then it got modern so I stick to the suburbs now. I'm going to play with Pogo for a while now before I have my nap. Tonight its back to work. You have a wonderful day. Woofs to Izzi from Pogo, hugs, Edna B.
