Wild Bird Wednesday

The Red Bellied Woodpecker frequents my suet feeders ...

On this morning, he decided to sun himself for a while ...

While little Mr. Downy waited his turn ...

And waited ...

still waiting ...

And waiting ...

But the Red Bellied was not budging ... he was enjoying his morning sun ...

So finally, with one last look, he flew away ...

The good news is ... he did come back and get his share of the suet :)
Happy WBW Everyone!

Great photos of both Woodpeckers. Interesting to see the order in which they feed.

two very special woodpecker species, lovely birds. Its fascinating to see who is higher up the foodchain, and you see it working perfectly in your garden, that is what nature is all about, and a perfect post for WBW

Great photos of the woodpeckers, Andrea. We have these two in my yard too, and I just love watching them. I like the little roof and backing on your suet feeder. I'll have to look for some for my feeders. I didn't realize there was such a thing to protect the food from the elements. How much snow did you get from this newest storm? We're up to around 7 or eight inches so far. As long as we don't get any storms the weekend Pogo and I leave for Florida, I'll be happy. You have a wonderful day, and give Izzi a big hug from Pogo. Hugs, Edna B.

There's nothing more joyous than seeing happy birds at the feeder. I imagine that's how we look milling around an all you can eat buffet.

Ha! That is just how it is at our bird feeder. Both the red-bellied and the little downy woodpeckers visit every day. They aren't even afraid when we are out on our porch with the dog and the cats. We consider them part of our family... Beautiful photos!! xoxo Silke

Our woodpeckers have been attacking the suet. Lots of snow on the ground right now.

Feels like I will never finish this list of blogs, but it is great seeing what is out there. Please visit my embroidery blog if you are so inclined. (I'm in the 1st group.)

Beautiful woodpeckers. I love it when they bring their young to the feeders in the summer. I know hawks are important, it is just hard to watch. I know many don't make their first year and this winter is hard on all wildlife.. I love the abstract above too.....Michelle
