Wild Bird Wednesday

The Blue Jays (Cyanocitta Cristata) are a rather large and raucous bird that storms my feeders daily announcing their arrival and expecting everyone to clear the way.   They are not my favorites because they belong to the group of bully birds that make it hard for the smaller, more timid birds to get their fair share ... but then again, they do mob the hawks when they are around and that helps keep things in balance and they are, without question beautiful.  So I welcome them as I do all of nature's creatures ... God made them with a purpose.

They are beautiful. And I hear you on their bully boy status. We have a few of them here too.

Nice shots! We sometimes have four at once, but normally only a pair. The bullies here are the starlings.

They are a beautiful bird. We mostly see scrub jays which are neat too but not as lovely as yours.

I love your Blue Jay photos. When it snows, the Blue Jays and the Cardinals show up just beautifully against the white snow. Our little birds are to holding their own around these jays. I'm catching up with your latest blog posts, and I have to agree about the beauty of winter. Even though it is not my favorite season, the landscape is simply beautiful when it is covered with snow. I loved the photo with the little horse by the fence. It kind of made me want to reach out and bring him in from the cold. Lastly, I really liked your photo of the snowmobiles on the dark lake. This is something I want to try one of these nights. Night photography, I mean. About the only thing I take photos of at night is the moon and stars, but there's a whole lot more out there waiting for the camera to notice it. Well, now I want to get some breakfast for my little guy. You have a wonderful day, and woofs to Izzi from Pogo. Hugs, Edna B.

Hi Andrea, your Blue Jays shares are so lovely. I may have already shared this, or may again, if I forget. I did not always care for Blue Jays, and then a couple of years ago. one was born with only one eye. It was not going to survive in the wild and so I cared for it, for 6 weeks and then one morning, it just passed away. It was in that caring of that sweet creature, that I learned to love them. Now then it's parents were not so happy with me the first few days, but they were doing like I would do, trying to protect their young one...very sweet creatures after all~

That's a beauty Andrea. My blue jays are slightly larger and very blue here on the West Coast but the ones in England are similar, without the fluffy crown. You know, one friend of mine had one jay trained to knock on the window in the morning for a peanut. Clever birds. Here they mob the crows, who in turn mob the eagles. It's a funny old world, isn't it? Hope your week is coming along nicely. :)

I would be delighted to see a Blue Jay at my feeder but there don't seem to be any here in town. Instead I get sparrows, chickadee's and that occasional hawk who was out yesterday (I miss seeing it but Coleen spotted him). Love that last shot of your Blue Jay.

Those jays are so good at spotting hawks. They give out such an urgent and brief call when they see one.
