Wild Bird Wednesday

It continues to be subzero weather here and it is impossible to get out to get pictures in these temperatures without running the risk of frost bite ... both myself and my camera.  So I pulled up some cold birds on another cold day so you could get the gist of what it is like here.  Winter has the tendency to make one a pessimist ... so now I am thinking, if our winter is this bad, what is our summer going to be like?  I don't even want to think about it :(

House Sparrows ...

Junco ...

Chipping Sparrow ...

Wishing you all some moderate weather ... today and in the future:)

Happy WBW!

Lovely captures! The Junco is so sweet. I can't go outside either because of the cold!

It seems you and I have the same outlook on weather. If it's this cold in winter what is the summer gonna be like. Indeed. Love the snowy photos...the action shot in the first one of the house sparrows is super.

Oh how lovely is the Chipping Sparrow against the snow..... You will enjoy the summer, long light days!

Oh I just love these little birds. I agree, I don't know how they cope with this wicked cold, but I'm so glad that they do. I have a whole flock of these little fellows that sit on the hedge outside my living room window, and they keep my day cheery. I don't know how you and Izzi are handling this severe cold, but I don't think I could. Extreme hot and cold make it difficult to breathe. I'm quite fond of breathing. lol. I think Pogo would love to get outdoors, but he will just have to wait for the temps to come up a bit. It is supposed to warm up later in the week, maybe by Friday or Saturday we will be able to get out for a little bit. We'll see. Well Andrea, you and Izzi have a wonderful day and stay warm. Woofs and hugs from Pogo and me. Edna B.

It is finally supposed to warm up a bit here tomorrow. I truly hope so. I'm praying for a well balanced summer. Not too hot, nice rains. Those are some really nice photos of the birds.

My grandmother always told me "moderation in all things"..apparently Mother Nature didn't get the memo ;))). Your archive photos are wonderful.

Beautiful birds! Winter started late here and we've gotten very little snow. It makes me wonder what spring and summer will be like.

Great birds and lovely photos. It is unusual for me to see a Chipping Sparrow in the snow. They are one of my summer birds. Have a happy week!

Beautiful birds, your winter looks very cold, here we had only few days snow.

Sweet birds - I don't know how they handle the weather. I used to watch one of the eagle cams and could hardly stand watching the wind and snow pelting the poor eagle guarding her young.

Great photos and even the snow looks good to someone who hasn't seen any moisture since before Christmas.

I know, I know so much how you are thinking...brutally COLD. Just heard over 900 accidents in the Atlanta snow storm...goodness. Stay warm and love that Chipping Sparrow~

It's been a crazy winter everywhere it seems. Your bird shots are lovely. I love the Junco shot.
We had freezing rain last night so today I posted Icy photos.

I'm sure the birds aren't happy, but the snow does give your photos some awesome beauty!

Lovely pictures!
I listen with concern in radio from the cold in USA. I worry also about the birds all that they are good and it will soon be warmer.
Luckily, I read in many blogs, birds are fed by many people. There is not much you can do, but better than nothing -

I'm looking forward to milder weather too. I LOVE juncos especially. Such sweet birds.

Love the shot of the Junco. Maybe I would have cropped away the red part to the left. That would make the shot more artistic. If you don´t mind me mention it. :) BTW your camera will probably have no problems until it goes down to -15 deg C. Then it might be slow and battery low.

Beautiful!! I was looking at all the birds at our feeders while it was so cold outside (still is a little) and it seemed they all stopped by for a quick meal. Always makes me happy!! xoxo Silke

Of course I don't mind you mentioning it ... you are right and I will crop it :) Also with the wind chill it has been in the -20's and -30's. Not an ordinary winter. Thanks for telling me, though, because I wasn't sure. I just know that when I bring the camera back in from the cold I have to put it in a sealed plastic bag so it won't get condensation inside (like my glasses do). Thanks ...
