Wild Bird Wednesday

My friend kept talking about the Flicker that was coming to her feeders and I am thinking ... Our Flickers never stay through the winter.  But, guess what ... I was wrong, because a few days ago as I looking through my files, look who I found.  This is clearly a winter shot and he is tolerating the winter cold very well.  So far this year, from what I can see, the birds are doing well ... even my Lady Hawk (Coopers Hawk) is looking healthy.  Can't help thinking that is because of the flock of Starlings that has been coming around. Nature takes care of it's own ... survival of the fittest.

As we freeze, Stewart sweats ... what ever happened to moderation?     Happy WBW everyone!

Like Stewart, I am a soggy, dripping person. Sigh. Your cool pictures look soooo inviting. Love the birds too.

Your Flicker photos are great. I don't usually see them around here in the winter. Or maybe I just haven't been in the right spot at the right time. I love the feeder. We're planning on putting up a couple more feeders, but we don't have anything this fancy. Very nice. You have a wonderful evening my friend. Hugs, the woozie floozie.

Lovely shots of the Flicker! I have never seen one. My hawks are quite well fed, unfortunately on the birds at my feeders.

I really like your Flicker photographs! They always seem so "neat" looking. We only see them occasionally here in central Florida during the winter. I think the resident birds are just much quieter than in breeding season.

Great shots! We have Flickers here, but not at the feeders. I've never seen one around the yard.

Awe what lovely images too of the wonderful Yellow Shafted Flicker. Yes, ours stay the whole year round here in KY, but since they are huge bug eaters, it is difficult to know what feeders they may visit and the foods served ;) Your kind comments on my blog entries are always so very kind and I really appreciate them. Thank you and have a great remainder to your week~

What a gorgeous bird this is Andrea! I don' tthink I have ever seen a flicker before, but definitely very recognizable. Only one more month till I go to see the cranes, and can't wait. Do you think a 70/ 200 will be adequate lens, or do I need to rent something much bigger??
